Mighty Dog Roofing to the Rescue

Written by: Morgan Taylor, Social Media Strategy & Market Research Intern

“I was born here, I was raised here, and most of my employees were raised here as well,” says Blake Parkinson, Co-Owner of Mighty Dog Roofing. “So, it's just keeping that local focus that we are a family-owned business, family run.”

The owner of Mighty Dog Roofing, Blake Parkinson, grew up in Boise riding his bike to the local Habitat Restore along with his friends. The Mighty Dog owner had fond memories of Habitat for Humanity starting at a young age, leading him to want to do good in his hometown. As Blake grew older, he gained a greater understanding of the work that Habitat does for families and individuals in the community of Boise.

Mighty Dog Roofing is a franchise company, but is an affiliate of the Treasure Valley, owned by father and son duo, Jeremy and Blake Parkinson. They are both native Idahoans. Like Habitat’s own local focus, Mighty Dog prioritizes hiring local people to work for them and keep the family-owned business community oriented.

Due to shared values, Mighty Dog’s partnership with Habitat just made sense. Among other standards, Mighty Dog’s owners prioritize their employees making a liveable wage, wanting to give back to the community, and making a difference in Boise.

“There are some really cool programs that Habitat does to give back to the community, but also to help homeowners more than just, ‘here's a home to live in’ but actually, ‘this is how a home comes together,’” Blake said. “This is what you're putting together, your dream home, and helping them through that whole process.”

Partnering with Habitat has allowed Mighty Dog the opportunity to help community members like Kathy repair her roof.

“Just seeing the joy on her face, that someone took the time to make something happen, makes it all worth it,” Blake said. “It’s that you didn't just look her over and ask, it's not going to be a profitable thing for the company to do.”

Due to Kathy’s financial situation, she was able to apply for the Habitat for Humanity  Home Repairs Program and received a roof replacement from Mighty Dog Roofing.

“I have nothing but the highest praise for Mighty Dog and Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity,” said Kathy. “Because of them, I get to stay in my house.”

Mighty Dog Roofing and the Habitat partnership consist of committing and investing in the well-being of the Boise community. Habitat for Humanity is always in need of assistance from local businesses, with help from partners like Mighty Dog. Through this partnership, Habitat can complete home repairs for individuals like Kathy, who are grateful for the assistance.
