The driving force behind our impact.

Join a Committee

Treasure Valley Habitat for Humanity is currently seeking volunteers to serve on committees that are critical to Habitat’s mission. You may not do any construction working on a committee, but your contribution will be an important part of every house built. Your involvement can make a difference. Help us build Habitat so Habitat can build houses.

The Family Selection Committee, along with Habitat staff, meets on an as-needed basis to plan, organize, and conduct the accepting and processing of applications for Treasure Valley Habitat for Humanity's affordable housing program.

This committee also ensures that each applicant understands the process and commitment involved in building and buying a home through the Habitat program, to include completing Partnership Hours and attending the required classes.

Committee members review each application submitted to determine the qualifications of each applicant based on Housing Need, Willingness to Partner, and Ability to Pay. Those who qualify financially receive a home visit by a team of two committee members. The purpose of the visit is to determine Housing Need and Willingness to Partner. The committee then meets to determine which families have met the selection criteria for the Habitat program - not all who qualify will be selected. Next, the committee makes their recommendation to the Board of Trustees, where the final approval is decided.

The time commitment for this committee varies drastically in that they meet as needed several times during the application process (2- 3 months) and then remain on “hiatus” until the next application period, which is usually not for another year.

The Family Support Committee develops a positive partnership with families in the program. Each family has a Family Partner who serves as the family’s liaison with Treasure Valley Habitat for Humanity, providing a support system that helps guarantee success. Committee members ensure that selected applicants understand Habitat’s requirements and expectations. Family Partners maintain regular contact with their assigned family to ensure they are progressing through the homeownership process. Family Partners help schedule and record the sweat equity of their partner family. The committee works in partnership with other community organizations to provide training in credit counseling, home maintenance, home repair, energy conservation, etc.

The Family Support Committee meets for one hour each month to review each family’s progress, identify problems, and work together to determine solutions. Each committee meeting is a celebration of the progress made by Habitat families toward their goals. Family Partners spend approximately 2 hours meeting with their assigned family during the month.
