Home Repairs  Program

At Treasure Valley Habitat for Humanity, we are committed to creating safe and sustainable living conditions for older adults who wish to age in place, maintaining their independence and quality of life. Our Home Repairs Program focuses on providing essential repairs and modifications, enabling seniors to live comfortably and securely in their own homes. By providing affordable home repairs, our program preserves homeownership for low-income residents while addressing critical accessibility, health, and safety concerns.

All home repairs are performed by licensed contractors and overseen by our skilled construction staff. Qualified homeowners can receive assistance with a variety of interior and exterior repairs, including accessibility ramps, grab bars, and more.

We work closely with homeowners to address critical repairs that alleviate health and safety issues, significantly enhancing their living conditions and overall quality of life.

Our Prioritization System

We categorize our repairs into three tiers to address the most critical needs first:

Tier 1: Aging in Place

  • Examples: Grab bars, handrails, smoke and CO2 alarms, minor lighting improvements, lever-style doorknobs, handheld adjustable shower heads, sliding bathtub seats, toilet seat lifts, and more.

Tier 2: Accessibility Modifications

  • Examples: Wheelchair ramps, door repair/replacements, weatherization, and more.

Tier 3: Extra (Fundraiser Specific)

  • Examples: Roof repair/replacement, flood mitigation, bathroom retrofits, flooring repairs, and more.

To qualify for home repair, both the property and applicant must meet the following criteria:

Need

  • The access areas of the home are in disrepair or unsafe, and Habitat’s scope of work will significantly benefit the homeowner.
  • The homeowner is unable to physically and/or financially complete the work themselves.

Ability to Pay

  • The gross household income (household members 18 years and over will be considered) must fall below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) based on the current year of HUD Income Guidelines. Our service areas in Canyon County and Ada County have different HUD guidelines, and your eligibility depends on which area you live in. For more information and to view the updated HUD Income Guidelines for each service area, please visit: HUD Income Guidelines.
  • The homeowner may be responsible for a percentage of repairs costs depending on household income. If applicable, a payment plan will begin the month following the completion of the project and will be paid through equal monthly installments up to two (2) years with 0% interest.
  • The project must be economically feasible under the Program and adhere to the scope of repairs Habitat offers.
  • Payment will be waived for households below 40% of the AMI.

Residency

  • The home must be located within Ada or Canyon Counties.
  • The homeowner must be current on property taxes, mortgage payments (if applicable), and homeowners insurance premiums.
  • The home must be owner-occupied, a single-family house, and the primary residence of the owner.

Willingness to Partner

  • Applicants must be willing to partner with Habitat (this includes potentially contributing Partner Hours towards the repair project).
