Land Development Plan
Two years after I last wrote about it, affordable land for affordable housing is still tough to find. Every day we work our way through the maze of traffic cones, detours, and flaggers which seem to be a permanent part of the typical Ada County streetscape. Construction detours, and cranes on the horizon all mean that the economy is strong and business is booming. Combine a vibrant economy with one the “Best Places” to live in the United States and the result is booming land prices as well. Along with many of our affordable housing colleagues, we find it challenging to locate land and even more challenging to afford today’s asking prices.
Habitat receives no special benefits when we are in the marketplace for land and lots. We are in competition with every developer in town and pay fair market value for all of our building sites.
Over the past two years we have been able to add two development sites to our inventory that will support at total of eight new homes.
We are very pleased to announce that work has started on a development located at Gary Lane and Hill Road in Northwest Boise. A perfect setting for four simple, decent, and affordable new homes. Site preparation is in progress and home construction is scheduled to begin in June.
Land acquisitions and construction are made possible by our financial supporters and the continuing success of our ReStores. So, contribute if you can, encourage your employer to support Boise Valley Habitat for Humanity, and shop at ReStore. With your help we will keep scouting the market for land and lots on which to further our mission.
