Warm Night, Warm Hearts, Hot Auction

Take a perfect venue, add generous supporters, spice it up with Goodwood Barbeque and you have another great Evening in the Garden. On Thursday, June 11 FarWest Landscape and Garden Center once again hosted the 13th Annual Evening in their beautiful Garden Center on State Street. Kevin and Brenda Mee the morning stars from 101.9 FM “The Bull” welcomed 200 Habitat supporters and made sure that the evening started off fun and kept moving.

Attendees were invited to view and bid on silent auction items, prepare their bids for the live auction and to participate in a new event. The Albertson’s Wine Pull offered donors the opportunity to select from 100 concealed bottles valued at $15 to $50, all donated by Albertsons. The first year of the Wine Pull was an unqualified success and sold out in minutes.

In addition to the vast array of plants and flowers in the greenhouse, posters surrounded the tables that reminded everyone of the work and accomplishments of Treasure Valley Habitat for Humanity. Homes Completed, Families Served, Volunteer Hours and other factoids reminded everyone of the evening’s purpose - a celebration of our work and a demonstration of continuing support for the Habitat Mission and the families we serve.

Following a welcome by FarWest owner Dennis Fix and Habitat Executive Director Tom Lay, it was time for the Live Auction. Auctioneer Larry Flynn started the night’s fundraising by “recruiting” an auctioneer at each table to sell the floral centerpiece. Larry then took over and “found” the perfect new owner for a wide variety of live auction items including custom planters, Garth Brooks tickets and dinner for eight with Mark Anderson. The auction action ended with “Raise the Paddle” which gave everyone a final opportunity to contribute to the Habitat Mission and added nearly $10,000 to the night’s total.
